Revealing Chris Rock’s reaction to the Oscars slap, The Telegraph recently shared details of the comedian’s most recent gig during his joint comedy tour in Liverpool, England with Dave Chappelle.
Chappelle is quoted as saying, “Will gave the impression of being a perfect person for 30 years, ripping off his mask and showing us that he was just as ugly as the rest of us.” Rock reportedly also joined the discussion, telling the crowd that Smith “hit me for a bull joke, the nicest joke I’ve ever told.”
For the unexperienced, during awards night, Smith stormed the stage and slammed the comedian for making a cheeky joke about his alopecia-suffering wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Shortly after the incident, Smith won an Oscar for his film King Richard. While giving the acceptance speech, Smith apologized to the Academy for the slap and attempted to explain his actions, saying, “Love will make you do crazy things.” However, he did not mention Rock by name.
In her apology video, which was shared a day after the show, the star called her behavior on Oscar night “unacceptable.” She also told Rock, “I’m here when you’re ready to talk.” Chris Rock later spoke indirectly about the apology during his performance at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. He said: “Everyone is trying to be a fucking victim. If everyone claims to be a victim, then no one will listen to the real victims.”
