Ranbir Kapoor has started 2023 with the release of Your Jhoothi Main Mecca, today. The film, directed by Luv Ranjan, stars Shraddha Kapoor opposite him. While this marks his return to the rom-com genre after seven years, the actor was previously supposed to do an action drama with Ranjan, starring Ajay Devgn. However, the dates are the reason, the movie just couldn’t happen and Ranbir chose this script instead.
Luv Ranjan Reveals Why Action Drama Starring Ranbir Kapoor And Ajay Devgn Didn’t Work: “The Idea Was To Make A Kind Of Salim-Javed Dialogue Oriented Movie”
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Luv Ranjan said: “I wanted to do an action movie with Ranbir because I thought it would be a great idea to see him do it. I had never done it. It wasn’t just an action movie. It was an action drama. I think it would be wonderful to see him do that; to make him play that hero. The idea was to make a kind of Salim-Javed dialogue-oriented movie. The desire was to make that movie, but it wasn’t to work out because of the dates.”
He added, “At the time, we randomly discussed this (Your Jhoothi Main Mecca) idea. We had discussed many ideas. Not just a couple, but 8-10 different ideas. When we realized that this movie (action drama with Ajay Devgn and Ranbir Kapoor) couldn’t happen because of the dates, I just asked him (Ranbir Kapoor) if we can do that (Your Jhoothi Main Mecca) and he said: ‘Yeah’”.
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor will next star in Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. It opens in August this year. He has brahmastra 2 starting at the end of the year.
