The suicide trial of Jiah Khan, which recently had its final hearing at the CBI Special Court, appears to be far from over. Jiah’s mother, Rabia Khan, expressed her disappointment at the court’s verdict after she cleared Sooraj Pancholi of all charges due to lack of evidence. In a recent statement given to the press by Khan, she went on to not only claim that the case is ‘homicide’ in nature but she also called the trial a ‘mockery’ of the Indian judicial system.
Rabia Khan Calls Jiah Khan Suicide Trial A ‘Mockery Of The Court System’; he claims ‘CBI and prosecution have been compromised’
In a statement given by Rabia Khan, he said: “This case was on the wrong track from the start. All the evidence pointed to a homicidal death. For starters, Sooraj Pancholi was accused of the wrong crime. How is it possible that the police accused him of the crime when they had no proof? All the evidence he had given the CBI, such as forensic expert reports pointing to murder, was simply ignored and never brought before the honorable court by the prosecution.”
He then accused the prosecution and the CBI of being compromised. The entire trial was a mockery of the judicial system. The court was following a higher, pre-trial court order, the predetermined path the trial court would follow in granting an acquittal to the defendant only to close the case. In ten long years, Indian agencies, Police and CBI, did not find a single piece of legally relevant evidence for suicide, it requires convincing evidence that a defendant directly led the victim to commit suicide immediately before the act. , and prove any complicity in the suicide allegations against defendant Sooraj Pancholi. The burden of proof was so high that all parties involved should have known the outcome, but none of it made legal or rational sense.”
“During the trial it soon became obvious to me that the CBI and the prosecution had been compromised, because they never established the actual cause of death. Let me repeat this: Jiah’s actual cause of death was never established. The court did not send evidence for forensic analysis. Instead, the CBI simply used the preliminary finding of the postmortem report designated by the police as the cause of death by suffocation,” he continued.
Despite the verdict, Rabia not only continued to accuse Sooraj Pancholi but also called him ‘ruthless’ for doling out candy to the media. “Sooraj was a defendant and he lied outright and both agencies honored his lies for reasons they know best,” he charged, concluding by adding: “The fact that he handed out candy outside the courtroom illustrates this and sums up his cruelty. Sooraj will one day have to deal with the demons he walks with.”
According to recent reports, the court also noted that the suicide note submitted by Rabia Khan was also “false”. On the other hand, Rabia Khan, in a previous statement, stated that he would approach the High Court to take this case further.
For the uninitiated, Jiah Khan was found hanged at her Mumbai residence on June 25, 2013. The actress was reportedly dating Sooraj Pancholi who is the son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab.
