Actor and choreographer Salman Yusuff Khan, on Wednesday, took to his social media username and posted a video in which he claims he was harassed by an immigration officer and asked to speak Kannada at Bangalore’s international airport. Salman took to his Instagram Live to recount the “disturbing” incident in which he felt harassed by the officer.

Along with the video, he also shared the details of the incident in the caption of the photo. He tagged Kempegowda International Airport and wrote: “On my way to Dubai I meet an immigration officer who speaks to me in Kannada… and I in my broken Kannada try to tell him that I understand the language but I can’t speak that well . to which he continues to speak in kannada and shows me my passport and points to my name and place of birth and my father’s name and his place of birth and has the audacity to tell me that.. you and your father were born in Bangalore and you can ‘ I speak Kannada.
The dancer and choreographer also added that when he tried to defend himself by saying he could speak Hindi, the officer insisted that he could “suspect” Salman “for anything.” As he continued, Khan added: “I told him… TRY IT. And he got a little louder and repeated PROVE IT… three times… To which he fell silent… I told him that if uneducated people like you continue to live in this country, this country will never grow… To which he simply kept his head down. and he muttered…”
Concluding his caption, Salman wrote: “PS I am a proud Bangalorean but what I have faced today is unacceptable…you should always encourage people to learn any local language, not put them down for not knowing…and name your parents in it.”
Salman’s video has received a mixed response from netizens. While many extended their support for him, a number of them called him out for calling Hindi the mother tongue of India.
