Spotify has removed Zee Music’s songs after negotiations to renew their licensing agreement failed. As a result, the platform no longer has several really popular tracks. For example, ‘Apna Bana Le’ of Bhediyawhich had been the title track on Spotify in India for the previous two weeks, has been removed.
Spotify Removes Zee Music Company Songs Over Licensing Dispute
Discussing the matter, Spotify told Billboard: “Spotify and Zee Music have not been able to reach a licensing agreement.” The music streaming platform further added: “Throughout these negotiations, Spotify has tried to find creative ways to reach an agreement with Zee Music and will continue our negotiations in good faith in the hope of finding a mutually acceptable solution soon.” . On the other hand, Billboard also mentioned that the commercial director of Zee Entertainment Enterprises, Anurag Bedi, refused to comment on the matter.
It is worth mentioning here that Zee Music had numerous tracks on Spotify’s Daily Top 200 Songs chart for India. The list includes songs like Jersey’s ‘Maiyya Mainu’, the title songs of ‘kalank’ and ‘Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas‘, ‘majna‘ of Drive‘Namo Namo’ of Kedarnath and ‘Zaalima’ of raees. But due to the ongoing dispute, all these tracks will not be available on the platform until a new deal is reached.
On the other hand, Spotify removing all ZEE Music Company catalogs has created confusion among music listeners. Some of them have even raised the issue on Twitter. In addition to the tracks mentioned above, many noted that movie music albums like Piku and Sairat They are also not available on the platform.
