Bringing the story of Bomman and Bellies to life and being recognized around the world, Kartiki Gonsalves said: “It is absolutely incredible to have an indigenous Indian documentary on the sacred link between man and nature in our own Asian elephants to be recognized in everyone. I still remember showing you the final film at a private screening in October 2022. There is no greater feeling in the world than introducing Bomman and Bellie to everything I have worked on over the last five years to bring their story to the world. world and see them smile, laugh and cry as they look at it. That, I must admit, is the most beautiful feeling in the world. Not only did I make a documentary about them, they are an integral part of my life along with Sanjana, Raghu and Ammu. It was also a very special moment when I took my parents to their house. We are all family. I am extremely grateful to Netflix and the excellent team at Sikhya Entertainment for believing in the power of this unique family story. It is a true honor to be the first Indian director to receive a prestigious Academy Award. With this win, I hope to encourage more young women and men to get out there and tell their unique stories, however small, and also to work on more stories to help connect humans with nature and better understand it.”

This historic victory has been hailed by influential voices across the country, from politicians to leading voices in the entertainment world. The documentary has garnered praise from all quarters and has given the world a chance to see Bomman and Bellie through Kartiki’s lens. Bomman and Bellie were also congratulated by Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin. The efforts of The Elephant Whisperers team resulted in the Tamil Nadu government announcing a token of appreciation of Rs 1,000 each for the 91 elephant keepers in the 2 CM Relief Fund state camps. In addition, Rs 9.1 cr has been allocated to build houses for mahouts and Rs. 5 cr have been allocated to develop ‘Elephant Camp’ in Anamalai Tiger Reserve.
