Ranveer Singh made a memorable debut with Baaja Baaraat Band (2010) and there were times when it was considered to be the next big thing in Bollywood. However, after the pandemic, the actor’s career has been seriously affected. His most anticipated movie ’83 (2021) failed at the box offices. Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022) was a disaster, grossing only Rs. 15.59 crores. Much was also expected of circus (2022). However, the public was not impressed. She ended her lifespan with Rs. 35.65 crores and a verdict of ‘Disaster’. The industry is awash with reports that Yash Raj Films (YRF), which released it, has decided not to make any movies with it, at least for the time being.
Yash Raj Films decides to take a break from Ranveer Singh after his hat-trick of flops
A source told Bollywood Hungama: “Aditya Chopra, the head of YRF, and his core team are heavily involved in YRF Spy Universe at the moment. They recently delivered an all-time blockbuster with Shah Rukh Khan-starrer pathan (2023) and are preparing for the release of Salman Khan tiger 3. They are also planning upcoming movies in this universe. The stakes are high as each film will have a huge budget and therefore there can be no room for error. Every film requires maximum concentration, from pre-production to the last release”.
The source added: “In such a scenario, a movie with Ranveer Singh is the last thing on their minds. Of course, they will also make non-Spy Universe movies. But out of the 6 movies Ranveer has made with YRF, there is only one movie that was not a flop. And that is Sunday (2014). This movie was also a semi-hit. Baaja Baaraat Band, Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (2011) and Befikre (2016) were average collectors. kill dil (2014) and Jayeshbhai Jordaarmeanwhile, it failed.”
The source continued, “It is also important to note that while these 6 films made money due to OTT sales and satellite rights, the box office returns were red for Yash Raj Films.”
Meanwhile, an industry insider commented, “Ranveer Singh has only had hits with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. All three of his films with the director – Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela (2013), bajirao Mastani (2015) and padmaavat (2018) – were huge hits. Outside of these movies, its overall box office record isn’t impressive. The only two successful movies she has delivered were simba (2018) and ravine boy (2019).”
The source also added: “Look at his contemporaries. ranbir kapoor is riding high with the success of brahmastra (2022) and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Ajay Devgn delivered a blockbuster in the form of Drishyam 2 (2022). Akshay Kumar delivered back-to-back flops, but at least he delivered sooryavanshi (2021). Even Shah Rukh Khan has bounced back with pathan. Meanwhile, Ranveer’s last hit was over four years ago.”
Readers will recall that Ranveer Singh parted ways with YRF Talent Management Agency in November last year. bollywood hungama had reported that the split occurred when his contract was up for renewal and asked the YRF team to reduce his commission percentage from his brand endorsement fees. YRF Talent’s management did not accept the request, prompting the actor to move.
The source closed by saying, “YRF’s decision to take a break from Ranveer Singh is temporary. Ranveer can be considered if YRF finds the right script to justify his presence, and can be assembled at the right mid-budget to safeguard the film’s overall commercial prospects.”
