The 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival became a great platform for South Asian artists to take over the stage and wow music lovers. Punjabi actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh’s mesmerizing performances over two weekends took the internet by storm. However, the singer had to respond to trolls who were spreading an edited video of him alleging that he did not respect the Indian flag.
Diljit Dosanjh Responds To Trolls Alleging He Disrespected Indian Flag At Coachella 2023: “If You Don’t Know Punjabi Then Google It”
A video of Diljit Dosanjh surfaced online in which he spoke of a woman waving the Indian flag in the crowd. At the concert, the singer said, “Eh mere Punjabi bhain bhraawan layi, mere desh da jhanda laike khadi aa kudi, eh mere desh layi, negativity ton bacho, music saareyan da saanjha (This is for my Punjabi brothers and sisters, this girl is holding my country’s flag. Stay away from negativity. Music is for everyone).”
The video was apparently edited online and presented online in a way that seemed to disrespect the Indian flag. “So @diljitdosanjh objects when someone waves the Indian tricolor during one of his US concerts. What passport do you have? Republic of KhaIistan? Shame on those Indians who listen to 2rs artists,” read a comment with the video.
Diljit responded to the spread of fake news, writing on Twitter: “DO NOT SPREAD FAKE NEWS and NEGATIVITY. Mai Kiha Eh Mere Desh Da Jhanda Hai. Eh Mere Desh Lai.. Means MERI Eh Performance Mere Desh Lai. For the past two weekends, Diljit Dosanjh has taken the stage at Coachella in California. The singer became the first Punjabi artist to perform at Coachella 2023. Wearing a traditional black kurta on one Saturday and a white kurta with lungi and turban on the second Saturday, he swept the stage with many of his hit songs, including ‘Patiala Peg’‘GOAT’‘Ni Mein LA Nu’ and ‘Vibe’ among others. Diljit Dosanjh addressed the crowd in Punjabi and said: “The Punjabis have taken over Coachella.”
Diljit Dosanjh is known for his Punjabi music and films, including albums Smile, Back 2 Fundamentals, Confidential, GOAT and moon child. She has also contributed as a singer in various Bollywood movies.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Diljit Dosanjh recently revealed the first trailer for his upcoming Punjabi film, Jodi. Scheduled to open on May 5, the film stars him alongside saunkan saunkne actress Nimrat Khaira. She will also be seen directing Imtiaz Ali. chamkila with Parineeti Chopra. The actor has also signed The gang alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kriti Sanon and Tabu.
