Veteran Bollywood actress Bindu, who played leading roles in many films during the 1970s and 1980s, recently expressed her disappointment that she was not awarded during the early years of her career. Despite the fact that she was nominated nine times for the prestigious Filmfare Awards, she failed to win. Bindu feels she was deprived of an award for her debut feature Raaste (1969) just because she was a newcomer at the time. However, Bindu pointed out that she did not apply the same reasoning when she awarded Jaya Bachchan for her performance in the film. Gudi (1971).

In an exclusive video interview with bollywood hungama, Bindu opened and said, “Ye andar ki baatein hain, merko pata bhi chala tha ki sabse zyada votes milne ki bavajood, mujhe award nahi diya gaya (All this happens behind closed doors. I came to know that I had gotten the most votes, They haven’t given me the prize yet. This happened three or four times, and it has always happened at Filmfare.”
She added: “I was nominated for Raaste. But they were like ‘How can we give you an award for your first film?’ But at the same time, they gave Jaya Bhaduri (Bachchan) an award for Gudi because she was the hero. They did not give it to me. I was nominated for Dastan also. I got votes, but again they didn’t give me the award.”
Bindu admitted to being disappointed at the time, as winning awards would have boosted her confidence, especially as she was a newcomer to the industry. She said: “I used to feel bad then. Although this is now a very old incident, it stays with you. When an artist is new to the industry and receives an award, the excitement and happiness is just of a different kind. Gives motivation. I would say give prizes to budding artists to boost their confidence.”

Bindu, who established her position in the film industry early on through her impressive acting skills, also emerged as one of the leading actresses who starred in cabaret dance numbers in Hindi films. She has also appeared in Main Hoonna, Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! and many more iconic movies.
