The main couple of Prime Video’s upcoming global spy series, Citadel, Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas have been busy promoting their upcoming series. After the Asia Pacific premiere in Mumbai in early April, the actress is in London for promotions and has the premiere on Tuesday night. In the midst of this, while in India, she made some intriguing comments about the inner workings of the industry and its politics. Before coming to India, the actress was on a podcast to talk about her work, where she commented that she was trapped in the film industry, which led her to try opportunities in the West.
Priyanka Chopra Says Bollywood Casting Should Be Based On Merit Rather Than Politics And Drama: ‘No Camp Should Rule It’
In an interview with Indian Express, Priyanka Chopra opened up about the ways in which the industry makes itself a safe space for outsiders. “I think having conversations about opportunities and merits is important. Now that we live in the world of streaming, there is much more. The Hindi film industry has changed a lot in the last five to ten years. You have so much talent: writers, directors, actors that come from outside the industry. When I started, that was not the case at all. So I think having conversations about the fact that the workplace should be based on merit, that the workplace should be a positive environment, that casting should be the job of a casting director rather than politics and the drama,” said the actor.
“I think having those conversations is very, very important so that there aren’t camps that really rule the casting and it’s done on merit and because the public wants to see people. I am very excited to see so many new faces from outside[the film industry]and from different parts of the country coming into mainstream Hindi-language entertainment. It gives me so much joy to be able to see that in my own career. And that happened because my generation of actors fought for it,” she added.
Earlier, while speaking on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepherd, Priyanka had shared that she felt cornered in the film industry and that she was tired of the politics of it all. “I was being cornered in the (Bollywood) industry. There were people who didn’t elect me, I had problems with people, I’m not good at playing that game, so I was tired of politics and said I needed a break. This music thing gave me a chance to go to another part of the world, not crave the movies I didn’t want to see, but would need to chat with certain clubs and cliques of people. It required subservience and I had worked so long by then that I didn’t feel like doing it,” the actress shared.
Priyanka Chopra is now preparing to Citadel Premiere on Prime Video. The synopsis reads: “Eight years ago, the Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency, tasked with keeping everyone safe, was destroyed by operatives from Manticore, a powerful syndicate that manipulates the world from the shadows. With the fall of the Citadel, elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They have remained in hiding ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their past. Until one night, Mason is tracked down by his old Citadel colleague Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to stop Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason searches for his ex-partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them across the globe in an effort to stop Manticore, while struggling with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous but dangerous love. eternal. .”
Citadel is produced by AGBO from the Russo Brothers and showrunner David Weil. Starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, the 6-episode series features Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville in pivotal roles. Taking viewers around the world, this exciting spy series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video starting April 28 with two episodes and then one episode weekly until May 26. The global series will be broadcast in 240 countries and territories in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and other international languages.
