According to recent reports, theater owners have claimed that the screening of The Kerala Story will affect the screening of other films. In a statement given by a member of the Theater Owners Association to NDTV, it is said: “Due to public order concerns, other films shown in multiplexes showing this film suffer. It affects our revenue. That is why we We made this decision.” From what we hear, many theaters have stopped booking the film online and removed it from their screening lists. The decision comes after the Madras High Court dismissed a petition to ban the film.
While the film claims that around 32,000 women are converting to the Islamic religion according to the film’s first teaser, the makers were forced to change it to three women after many criticized the film for its “false” claims. The left wing in Kerala also expressed disappointment in the film and many in the state have claimed that the film’s portrayal and plot are false and aimed at promoting communal hatred.
