Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah has announced the release date for his upcoming hard-hitting social drama. Kerala’s history. The film, starring Adah Sharma in the lead, will be released in theaters on May 5. The film is a sharp take on the global terrorist group ISIS and its activities in the Indian state of Kerala.

Shedding further light on the film’s theme, a statement from the filmmakers read: “Kerala’s history is based on a human tragedy that uncovers the events behind an estimated 32,000 missing women in the southern Indian state of Kerala who are converted, radicalized and deployed on terrorist missions across India and the world. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Sudipto Sen, the film is a heartbreaking story of women who are victims of this conspiracy that is not limited to just Kerala or India, the director having previously stated that it was his patriotic duty to expose the way in which thousands of girls were converted and trafficked abroad.”
By the end of 2022, the creators of Kerala’s history brought up the teaser for the film which created a controversy as it faces accusations of depicting inaccurate events. At the time, Shah reacted in the same way in a conversation with Mid-Day, saying: “We are making a movie about a great tragedy. If I feel like I want to tell this story as a filmmaker, then the discussion of whether or not I’m pro-establishment will only reflect one individual’s point of view. As a filmmaker, I only think about the story that touches my heart and moves me enough to want to tell it.”
Kerala’s history is financed by Sunshine Pictures Private Limited, founded by Shah, who is the film’s producer, creative director and co-writer.
