On Monday, the Delhi High Court dismissed the contempt case brought against filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri for his comments against Judge S Muralidhar, a former Delhi High Court judge and now president of the Orissa High Court. Vivek Agnihotri apologizes for offensive tweet against Judge Muralidhar; Delhi High Court warns him to be careful

The court said: “He asserts that he has the highest respect for the institution of the judiciary and did not intend to deliberately offend the majesty of the court. He withdraws the notice of cause that was sent to him. He is fired in alleged contempt.”

For the uninitiated, in 2018, Vivek Agnihotri tweeted stating that Judge S. Muralidhar granted bail to Gautam Navlakha in the Bhima Koregaon case because his wife is a friend of Navlakha’s. The court took note of this and started proceedings against Agnihotri, Anand Ranganathan and Swarajya. The court asked Agnihotri to apologize and last year he withdrew his statement and apologized to the court.

During a hearing of a case, Vivek was asked by a court consisting of Judge Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh to remain present in court. However, she was not present on March 16, 2023 for medical reasons. His attorney apologized on his behalf, stating that Vivek had the flu but that he was willing to appear in court virtually. The court decided to hear the case only when Vivek appears in person, and now they are being strict in ordering him without asking any questions.

On April 10, the hearing began at the Delhi High Court. But the same thing happened again. Vivek’s lawyer said that he himself cannot come because he has a high fever. But the court ordered him to appear today. Following this, Vivek came to the court and apologized for the tweets against Judge Muralidhar. Following his apology, the court ordered him to be cautious in the future.
